The village has the benefit of a lovely boulangerie/patisserie and is run by the resident baker. The shop also sells a range of goods and alcohol. The facility is owned and maintained by the Mairie as the village has the concession for baking bread for surrounding villages.

There is a local Bar located alongside the boulangerie, it is and is owned operated by the local village mechanic who also operates mechanic workshop. The bar is run as a social enterprise and opens most evenings. The length of opening is based upon local demand.

The village also has a recycling area, sports ground,tennis courts, village hall (where various culinary evenings are provided during the year), there is also a Boules ground where area events and tournaments are held. There is a main school operated from the Mairie Chateaux and also houses the mayor and his secretary. There is also a junior school where activities and meals are provided for the smaller children. The village church is open daily for quiet contemplation and used for weddings, annual events and selected memorial services such as the liberation of France ceremony. It is a lovely church with 17th century main nave and 19th century clock tower and stained glass. There is also the nearby church of St Jaques in St Leon, an historic monument in its own right dating to the 14th century.

Near the village you can find many miles of clearly marked walks. Also, nearby is the lake and barrage of Bosmeleac and the Rigole Hilvern that is a a popular summer retreat used by walkers and campers. Bosmeleac also has a restaurant/bar and creperie. The lake Guerladan and its Monastery is not far for an afternoon out offers many treats, such as places to eat, the monastery itself and the wonderful lake and forests to explore. This can be reached by travelling on the road over the granite hills until you go though the Poulrancre Granite Gorge and is marked from there.

The NEXT nearest village is located about 2.5 miles away. The village has three caf/bars. The main bar for late nightlife is called Le Cyrano, bar/tabac and is operated by Eric and Michelle. It is open until very late, sometimes 1 am. Uzel, has two banks, 7 day a week supermarket called Shoppi. The village also has a lovely active church of St Nicholas (17th century), football ground, busy CULTURAL CENTRE, where anything from music, loto, comedy acts, opera, theatre and feasts are held. There is a hotel, restaurant and supermarket. Other facilities include, library, museum, two schools, a wool shop, two hairdressers, shoe shop, boulangerie/patisserie, two petrol stations, fish shop, chemists and doctors surgery. There is also a small industrial park that has a nightclub, garden centre, diy/agricultural centre and other businesses.

The supermarket is opened Monday to Saturday until 8pm and also open Sunday until 12noon. Shoppi is located facing the post office near the football ground and Culture centre/theatre. This may be useful as there are generally no supermarkets open in France on sundays and is very handy and well stocked.

The nearest biggest town is Loudeac. This is about 10 miles away and offers everything that anyone could need. Including in-town shopping, boutiques, banks, hotels, restaurants, large supermarkets and diy retailers, etc. Just outside the town is a new retail park that opened in 2009 and is undergoing further expansion. On the coast St Brieuc is 26 miles drive away and offers more than anyone needs and is good to visit.

Brittany Ferries have sailings from the UK to ports in Brittany. EG; St Malo is a close port to the house about 70 miles away. Travellers with a France travellers club card are entitiled to discounts on ferry crossing of up to 30% and on some sailings and complimentary cabins.

Low cost flights operate from several destinations in the UK to Brittany, such as East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, London Standsted, Southampton, Birmingham, Exeter and Manchester. Two carriers are Ryanair and Flybe. Flight destinations in Brittany include, Rennes which is only 65 miles from the house. There is also Dinard that is approx 60 miles from the house and Brest airport is approx 85 miles from the house. Advanced booking ensures good prices.
