BEHR 1 & 2 Parts Epoxy Concrete Floor Paint

Well, it’s that time of year again — spring cleaning! And yes my garage needs a little updating and I mean from the floor up! So I decided to start with the Home Depot website and work from there. Sounds like a plan! The site offered many products, articles and installation or services for garage floor paint. So that’s where I began. BEHR products have always worked for me so I was going to stick with them. Prices were reasonable in 1 gallon buckets for the 1 part epoxy and a bit more for the 2 part semi-gloss floor coating, and colors ranged in whites, greys, tan/brown or clear and exactly what I was looking for, since it is a garage floor. The epoxy premium is high performance, 2 part, that has to be mixed and ready to use for a faster and easier time and process. The other was an epoxy acrylic in a no mix that washes with soap and water. Both need a primer first. They also featured videos on their website making things a little bit easier for a novice (like me).

So which was the better product to purchase and use — the epoxy acrylic or the premium? I’m still trying to assess the pros and cons since both feature easy clean up with soap and water, use with a roller, no mixing or for the 2 part mixing, chemical resistant, interior and exterior use, Water-based acrylic finish resists scuffing, fading, cracking, peeling and blistering and a satin finish. I’m looking for a clean surface that will be protected against tire marks and stains, and I know epoxy is very durable but if your garage floor holds moisture than this product is not the best. Don’t forget the drying time varies so allow time for your car to be out in the elements. I’m quoting from their website here to make things a little bit clearer:

# Resistant to abrasion and creates strong adhesion

# Offers effective chemical and weather resistance

# One-part epoxy is premixed

# Two-part epoxy must be mixed together with a stick or drill mixer

# Two-part epoxy must be applied within 4-6 hours of mixing to avoid drying

# Epoxy may be solvent-based, water-based or 100% solid

# Water-based epoxy doesnt emit hazardous fumes and is easiest to apply

So wish me luck painting my garage floor with an epoxy floor paint. I’m still debating on whether to use the 1 or 2 part and if I have enough left over my basement floor is calling me!
